They will hardly ever adorn a smile on their faces and become rather grim and glum personalities. Lack of sleep causes mental fatigue which does not let them concentrate on what they are doing. Mental fatigue gives way to physical tiredness too and they practically become unwilling persons.

How to control your Weight

Obesity is one of the most common disorders in medical practice and among the most frustrating and difficult situation to manage. Obesity is a state of excess adipose tissue mass. Obesity should not be defined by body weight alone, as muscular individuals may be overweight by arbitrary standards without having increased adiposity. The most widely used method to gauge obesity is the body mass index (BMI), which is equal to weight/height2 in kg/m2. A BMI between 19 - 25 kg/m2 is considered an appropriate weight for most individuals.

The Current Situation of Ayurveda in Argentina and Spain

In January 2008 in Haridwar, India, a Memorandum of Understanding was arranged between Ayurveda Maimonides University (AUM) from Buenos Aires, Argentina and Dev Sanskrity University from Haridwar which created the First Ayurveda University Center for professionals of the Heath Care in South America including a Hospital-School. The main goal is to spread the teachings of Ayurveda as well as to integrate the ancient science with western medicine; the merger of these two valuable schools of thought will enrich the professional practice of medicine by treating the whole human being, not just the symptoms or problems. The directors Dr. Alfredo Lauria and Dr. Fabian Ciarlotti have written numerous publications on Ayurveda in Spanish.

Scorpion stings are a major public health problem in many under developed tropical countries. Every year more that 1,25,000 case of scorpion stings are reported in India and a few unlucky ones loose their life due to it. Most of these cases occurs in the rural areas.

Out of 1500 scorpion species, 50 are dangerous to humans. The lethal scorpion found in the Asia continent belong to Megobuthus. The scorpion’s venom is composed of varying concentrations of neurotoxin, cardiotoxin, nephrotoxin, hemolytic toxin, hyaluronidases, phosphodiesterases, phospho-lipases, histamine, serotonin, tryptophan and cytokine releasers...

Research Update: Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular dystrophy refers to a group of genetic diseases marked by progressive weakness and degeneration of the skeletal or voluntary muscles, which control movement. The major forms of muscular dystrophy are myotonic, Duchenne, Becker, limb-girdle, facioscapulo-humeral, congenital, oculo-pharangeal, distal and Emery-Dreifuss. Some of these names are based on the locations of affected muscles. For example, “facioscapulo-humeral” refers to the muscles that move the face, scapula (shoulder blade) and humerus (upper arm bone)
