AYURVEDIC Management of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

A small care through clinical research trial involving Gold bhasma based Mamsagni Rasayana (MRG) along with Til Mash pinda swedana, Shat-Bala Prasarni anuvasana vasti yielded mixed results in 28 boys with Duchenne Muscular dystrophy (DMD). Although this ayurvedic program did not have the hope for the genetic effect of restoring dystrophin production, it did reduce serum CPK levels. This could be a
sign of decreased muscle damage. It is possible that ayurvedic treatment with MRG allow longer survival by increasing production of muscle CPK enzyme...

General Guidelines for Methodologies on Research and Evaluation of Ayurvedic Medicine

People do research in ayurveda for establishing a drug. This is purely business. But the reality for success in ayurveda is not a drug or a plant product as oil, creams or tablets. The success in several diseases with ayurveda treatments was always with a combination of therapies including massage, Panchakarma, life style etc. The out come of such treatments should be evaluated with the questionwhether the quality of life is improved or not. Not a symptom is healed with a special product. The first time in Germany, with the collaboration of Bonn university 5 diseases are taken in to research: Polyneuropathy, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoporosis, sleeping problem of children and Paralysis. Here a drug is not established. Instead a protocol of Ayurveda treatment methods are evaluated in a study period of 5 years...
